GOLD CARE
When you wear your gold jewellery regularly, you expose it to dust, perspiration, and oil on the surface of your skin.To keep it looking shiny it’s important to clean it regularly. The easiest way is to create your own cleaning solution of 10 parts warm water and two parts dish soap. In order to get the oils and other contaminants off the surface of the gold jewellery, it’s important to soak the gold pieces for three hours. When the three hours have passed, use a very soft brush and gently scrub the jewellery. You can also rub it with your fingers or use a cotton swab. When you’re done scrubbing it, rinse it under warm water. You can either dry the pieces with a soft cloth or leave it out to air dry. Avoid using tissue or paper towel to dry the pieces, as these materials can actually scratch the surfaceof the gold jewellery. After the pieces are dry, use a jewellery polishing cloth to add additional shine. If you don’t have one, use a chamois cloth or another extremely soft cloth and gently rub the surface of the piece. Polishing your gold regularly not only helps it to maintain its beautiful glow, but also can remove small scratches that can develop as a result of wearing the pieces regularly.
For everyday wear there are some useful tips:
- Minimize exposure to soap and chemicals. Gold that is regularly exposed to soap, chlorine, and other chemicals can dull more quickly. To avoid this altogether, take your gold jewellery off before you get into a spa or pool.
- Because gold is a soft metal, it can scratch or dent easily. Make sure to remove them before engaging in any type of fitness activity to minimize exposure to perspiration and decrease the likelihood that you will scratch or dent the pieces during your workout.
- Avoid also situations where the jewellery may fall on a very hard surface, such as a concrete or marble floor. This can lead to deformation of the jewellery and damage to semi-precious stones.
GOLD-PLATED JEWELLERY CARE
Le vermeil (fr.) or gold-plated – is a precious metal coated with gold. The main difference is that gold-plated items have a silver base; while gilded items can be made of various metals. This is why le vermeil (fr.) or gold-plated jewellery is considered the most valuable.
To preserve the luster of your gold-plated jewellery and not damage it, it is important to store your jewellery in a cool, dry and bright place. Also, do not place jewellery near sources of heat or moisture, especially avoid direct contact with the sweat and cosmetics, such as creams, perfumes, etc.
To avoid the natural oxidation process, we recommend wearing your jewellery as often as possible and not leaving it in a closed box. Anyway oxidation of products is a natural phenomenon that will eventually give your jewellery a beautiful patina.
